Matusadona National Park Walking Safaris

Prime wildlife safari area along the shores of lake Kariba tracking wildlife and black rhino on foot.
The Matusadona national park teems with wildlife including elephant, buffalo, lion, cheetah and 
is an Intensive Protection Zone for the endangered black rhino.
Remote, ruggedly beautiful, the park is well known for houseboat holidays, tiger fishing and exceptional birding. 

Matusadona National Park

lying on the southern shoreline of lake Kariba, Matusadona is some 1407 sq m in extent and is generally regarded as the one of the loveliest of Zimbabwe’s national parks.

Bounded in the west by the Ume river and in the east by the Sanyati which flows through a spectacular gorge that has been partyly inundted by the lake.Most visitors to the park are familiar with the lake shore and the low lying flatlands immediately to the south.Two thirds of the park lies in the Matuzwi-a-donha hills which form part of the Zambezi escarpment and mark the southern limit of the Zambezi valley.

The park supports a full spectrum of large mammals typical of the Zambeai valley and also has plentiful bird life.

Flora ranges from mopane and jesse woodlands to the brachystegia vegetation of the higher grounds to the south.

Activities

As well as safari walks and tracking, you can also fish. with the main fishing season being April to October. 
Walking trails are a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about the flora and fauna of the national park. 
In addition to a walking safari,other activities on offer are canoeing, game viewing by boat, bird watching, local village tour or sail to Starvation Island in 23 foot catamaran.
