Mozambique: Travel Guide

Currency: The Mozambique currency is the Metical. Restaurants and shops in Maputo require local currency but all hotels and lodges accept US$

Visas: Travellers usually need a visa for Mozambique, best obtained in advance

Health: Malaria exists throughout Mozambique, so a course of anti-malarial medicine is needed. Otherwise, the islands are generally healthy, though several vaccines are sensible (Typhoid, Polio and Tetanus)

Language: Portuguese is Mozambique’s official language, although English is often used in hotels and restaurants

Food: The food in Mozambique is excellent, and the seafood superb.Mozambican beer is popular, as are South African wines and beers

Climate: in the North the cyclone season is from January to March. From April to November it is generally dry and fine, with July and August slightly cooler than other months.

In the South the rains can start mid September
