Zambezi Man Challenge

White Water Rafting, Kayaking and Marathon event 21, 22 , 23 and 24 August 2008

On the Zambezi River just beneath the Victoria Falls called The Zambezi Man Challenge

The marathon and Half marathon is scheduled for the same period and takes place above Batoka Gorgezambezi challenge start

This is without doubt the major White Water event in Africa.

The Zambezi in the Batoka gorge beneath the Victoria Falls is known as the adrenaline capital of the world (sorry Queenstown it has overtaken you)

Rapids such as number 5 "The Stair Way to Heaven" and number 8 "The Midnight Diner" will be KICKING. We are getting some major interest from Rafting bodies from around the world and expect at least three continents to be represented at this year's event"

About the Zambezi Challenge

The competition was launched in December 2006 and enjoyed excellent support from competitors and sponsors.

Rafting Teams with six members in each team came from Zimbabwe, Zambia
and South Africa and took part in Sprint and Down River events.

Individual Kayakers from Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, Argentina, France and England took part.

The footage of these events is astounding and well worth watching.

Events toke place on some of the most amazing Rodeo water anywhere in the world and in a Down River Race that includes some of the largest commercially run rapids in the world.

Schedule of Events

Day 1

07.00 Beginning of Adrenalin Junk out Day for Amateur Teams (optional activity – pls request rates and info from organizers)
07.00 Recce morning for Professional Teams. ( also available for Amateur Teams ) Meet at Z.C. Village.
15.00 Rafting Porters Race and Town Carnival. Followed by the Zambezi Challenge Opening Ceremony. Captains Meeting and Kayakers Meeting. Dinner for all competitors, Team back up, officials and event organizers as well as pre booked spectators will have dinner at the opening ceremony. Transport will be provided from and to the Zambezi Challenge Village and the Hotels. ( NB. Possible Kayak and Raft Slalom event for Professional Teams and Kayakers will be held on this day. )

Day 2

07.00 Professional and Amateur Raft Teams Meet at the Village for preparations for the Raft Sprint Event. Venue Rapids 1 to 5 split.
14.00 Professional and Amateur Kayakers meet at the Village for preparations for the Down River Kayak Event. Raft Team Drum Out Event and Boma Dinner ( African Extravaganza ) Transport to and from Dinner provided. Captains and Kayakers Meetings.

Day 3

07.00 Professional and Amateur Raft Teams meet at the Z.C. Village for preparations for the Raft Down River Race Rapids 1 to 11.
14.00 Professional and Amateur Kayakers meet at the Z.C. Village for preparations for the Kayak Rodeo Event. Formal Zambezi Challenge Closing Dinner and Prize Giving. Transport to and from Dinner provided.

Rafting Porters Race - The porters are an integral part of the competition, without them it wouldn't be possible to take the equipment in and out of the Batoka Gorge. This exciting race has the porter teams demonstrating their strength and endurance - running for ...km with inflated rafts.

Equipment - Raft Teams

The organizers will arrange 16 Foot ARK rafts for this event. Professional Teams will be responsible for arranging their own paddles, life jackets and helmets. Amateur Teams can hire Helmets, paddles and lifejackets from the organizers at reasonable rates if required. Other necessary safety equipment required for each team should include, One river knife per team, one suitable throw bag per team.

Equipment - Kayakers

Professional Kayak competitors will be responsible for bringing their own kayaks and please take note of the minimum and maximum specs for these, as per the Event Regulations Page. Amateur Kayakers - there is a limited stock of kayaks for hire over the event, please contact the organizers for details. It is however recommended that you bring your own kayaks and please pay attention to the minimum and maximum specs for these on the Event Regulations Page. All Kayak event competitors will be responsible for their own, helmets, paddles and life Jackets. ( Please note that this is a high volume river and should the event organizers deem that certain equipment is not suitable they have the right to insist on a change. )

The Opportunity

The opportunity to show case Highly respected brands along side such an event, on one of the world's most famous rivers and certainly along side some of the best white water in the world is a large one. Not to mention the fact that the events take place just beneath one of the 7 Wonders of the World, the VICTORIA FALLS.

The functions that will accompany the formal fixtures also allow for a myriad of great branding opportunity.

Functions

The competitors Adrenalin Junkout - a light hearted event that encompasses some of the highly adventurous product in the area such as, Bungi Jumping, Abseiling, Gorge swings and Micro Light flights.

The Porters Race - This event sees the amazing Porters teams from the various companies carrying fully inflated Rafts some 3 km through the Town.

Drumming - Each evening sees the competitors enjoy an early function hosted at one of the many hotels and restaurants in the area, the favourite in 2006 was the Boma Dinner which included the Team Drumming Competition.

Meet the Wild Life - Interaction by competitors with the Local Elephant Rides and Lion Encounters.

Super Sport covered the 2006 event. The event was also covered by South African and Zimbabwean media as well as exposure throughout the World Rafting Federation and affiliate publications.

We will also enjoy pre event publications in many South African sporting and outdoor magazines, Zimbabwean and Zambian News Papers and some International Media exposure. We are very confident that the results will be published by well acclaimed online and other regional and International Media
