Central Botswana accommodationThis area incorporates a multitude of salt pans and vast grass plains dotted by palm islands and forms the Great Makgadikagidi which comprise the largest area of salt pans in the world covering some 37 000 sq km in overall extent. It is the last vestiges of Africa’s largest inland sea and exudes an atmosphere of antiquity and mystery.
The Makgadikgadi Pans is approx. 45 km's west of the small village of Gweta. Roads within the park are rough and in many cases very sandy - a 4 x 4 is essential. It is wise to always carry water with you and where possible travel in tandem. Nxai Pan is a "sister" park to Makgadikgadi
- approx. 65 km's from Gweta. There are no supplies of fuel in the park
- so stock up at Gweta. Wildlife within Nxai Pan include lion, giraffe, kudu, impala, ostrich, springbok, jackal, beat eared fox. Once the rains have started gemsbok, elephant and zebra migrate to the area The Nata sanctuary forms the breeding ground for a host of water birds including pelicans and flamingo in their thousands, transforming the shore line into a pink haze blending into the western sky. Nata is 180km from Francistown MapsBotswana Road Map | Makgadikgadi Pans | Nxai Pan Map Accommodation
