Xigera - Okavango Delta

Xigera (pronounced Keejera) is a luxury tented safari camp in the Moremi Game Reserve and is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta - Botswana

Situated in the Moremi Game Reserve, the Xigera reserve is probably at the very centre of the Okavango alluvial fan. This magnificent area epitomises the permanently flooded section of the Okavango. Palm filled hardwood islands, hardwood riverine forests and a multitude of clear water channels and flood plains are what Okavango delta wetland is all about.

Permanent water all year round allows one to enjoy an unparalleled variety of activities including foot safaris, mokoro trips, game drives and powerboat outings in total privacy.

Xigera has something for everyone in an area where there are no other Moremi camps.

Game and Bird Viewing

Lion and Leopard are often seen from the camp crossing the bridge. Lechwe, Sitatunga, Buffalo, Hippo are seen often from mokoro and on walks. Plains game is good and Bushbucks are a feature.

There is an abundance of birds - a special being Pels Fishing Owl. Water birds are seen in numbers. Activities centre around the use of boats and mekoro, but short game drives are available during the drier times and seasonal fluctuations in the water.

One of the great secrets of the Xigera operation is the presence of Okavango born tribesmen as guides

Accommodation at Xigera

Eight tents in total consisting of:
- Six ¾ twin bedded tents
- One double bedded tent
- One kingsize-bedded honeymoon tent
- One guide/pilot tent (same as guest tents)
This camp can accommodate 16 guests plus tour leader.

Tent details:
- Tented Safari Camp raised off the ground on wooden walkways.
- Each tent has a great view
- En-suite bathrooms
- Tent entrance is a sliding door
- Fans
- Soaps, shampoos and insect repellents are supplied in each tent

Low Season: - 01 December to 31 May
USD600 | €463 per person per night sharing

High Season - 01 June to 30 Dec
USD900 | €695 per person per night sharing

Includes:

All local drinks beers, wines and mineral water are included in the nightly tariff, with the exception of premium wines & champagne, and premium liqueurs & spirits.

Children over the age of 8 years are welcome

NOTES
* Laundry is done on a daily basis and inclusive in the nightly tariff with the exception of 'smalls' ie underwear, which are not washed due to local customs.

* All transfers to and from the Tented Camps are extra and costs are based on a minimum of two guests.

Activities

- Whilst the emphasis at Xigera is on water activities, game drives are offered all year round. Good multi-activity camp in Moremi Wildlife Reserve
- Game drives via 2 x 10 seater open Land Rovers each accommodating a maximum of seven guests, allowing all guests an outside seat .
- Walking safaris on request
- Water game viewing via mekoro and by foot (eight mekoro with each seating two guests)
- Power boating seasonally available depending on water levels (1 x 8 seater boat)

Facilities

- Camp has 220v generator, which runs when guests are not in camp. When guests return from daily activities, generators generally switched off (for peace in camp).
- 220v inverter power is used for lighting and fans in each guest tent 24hrs/day
- Video battery can be charged 24hrs a day
- Electrically heated water

Flying Times

To/from Maun: 30 minutes
To/from Kasane: 1 hr 25 minutes
Kasane to Victoria Falls: 20 minutes but allow additional time for customs and immigrations

Luggage is restricted to 12kg maximum per person
