Southern Mozambique

Maputo the capital of Mozambique, is a vibrant, colourful African city. Goats wander down the streets, children play football in the dusty squares and the roads are lined with rickety stalls selling everything from bananas to exhaust pipes

Ponta do Ouro is 10 kms from the South African border. and best accessed through the Kosi Bay border which is open 7 days a week (08h00 to 17h00). Ponta do Ouro is a divers paradise and coupled with a good dose of laid back charm makes this a wonderful holiday destination

The food in Mozambique is excellent, and the seafood superb. Mozambican beer is popular, as are South African wines

Maputo has a variety of accommodation and some excellent restaurants, all within striking distance of the centre

If you enjoy exploring old African markets, eating fresh crab curry or piri piri chicken at pavement cafés, and watching a lively world go by, then Maputo will suit you well

North of Maputo are the more popular holiday destinations of tropical islands, surrounded by turquoise waters as well as largely empty palm-fringed beaches that squeak underfoot

It makes a wonderful end to any African safari
