Your host, Steve Edwards, who owns and built Musango Safari Camp in the Matusadona National Park, worked as Game Warden with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Management for 18 years

Getting There

* By light aircraft charter from Kariba to Bumi Hills airstrip and a short transfer by boat to the island,
* All weather gravel airstrip, length 1,300m.
* No aircraft fuel available at Bumi Hills but available at Kariba

Boat:

* Kariba to Musango by speedboat
* The trip from Kariba to Musango takes approximately one and a half hours.

By Vehicle:

* A cheaper and more adventurous way of accessing Musango would be to drive to the camp in a 4x4
* The routes in are varied and very scenic, taking in wild life, communal lands, villages and forests. 8 hrs drive from Victoria Falls.
* 7 hrs drive from Harare

General info and activity details

Guides

Having nearly 30 years experience with wildlife and guiding Steve is considered one of the 'old school' guides. Steve is an avid photographer and a very keen birder. His other passion is a keen interest in palaeontology as he recently discovered a dinosaur fossil site in the Matusadona National Park with four different species of dinosaur being classified.

Steve and Wendy and their children Graham and Robyn, live permanently on the island, and together with their team look after your every need to ensure that you have a most enjoyable and memorable experience.

Musango boasts the highest ratio of guides to guests. Excursions include walks into the Matusadona National Park and the nearby Game Sanctuary, game viewing by boat along the many inlets and creeks, and casual canoe paddling up adjacent creeks where bird life is prolific and the scenery breathtaking.

Dinosaur fossil and early stone-age site visits as well as specialised birding trips. Morning visits to the nearby village may also be arranged and are very popular. The Black Rhino orphanage, close to Musango, is well worth a visit

Walking Safaris

Accompanied by our experienced, qualified and armed, professional guides, guests can walk in the National Park or in the nearby wildlife sanctuary, tracking and photographing a variety of wild life including the big five which this area is famous, including the rare Black Rhino. Walking is one of Musango's specialties

Dinosaur fossils

Wonder around with your guide and see the wide variety of Dinosaur fossils recently found by Steve. The area boasts fossils of many species of dinosaurs

Game drives both within the Matusadona National Park and the Wildlife Sanctuary are conducted on request

Fishing

Lake Kariba offers many species of fish including the famous fighting Tiger Fish, huge Vundu catfish, as well as the delicious Bream. The new world record Tiger Fish caught on a fly-rod was caught near camp. Musango supplies all fishing equipment, except fly fishing tackle

Village Tours

A very popular morning activity is a visit to a nearby Batonka Fishing Village. Our guests spend the morning with one of the villagers who will conduct them on a tour of this genuine, day to day, non-tourist village

Canoeing

Musango offers an incredible canoeing activity, with 2 and 3 seater Canadian style canoes. Your guide will take you close, but safely, for that unforgettable experience and photographic memory.

Along the shoreline and exploring the many wild life rich rivers, which abound in the vicinity. Experience the peace, tranquility and relaxation whilst gently gliding past the prolific wildlife and stunning scenery.

Black rhino sanctuary

Spend a morning with our baby black rhinoceros and see how they feed, mud wallow and interact with other wild life. This program is designed to reintroduce the orphaned black rhinoceros back into the wild
