Anglers Union Lodges - Charara

This complex of fishing lodges – hosts the annual Kariba Tiger Fishing Competition – mid October

The tiger fish, considered by many to be one of the finest game fish around have flourished in the rich waters of lake Kariba.

The largest average weight caught in competition is just under eight pounds, but the speed, courage and strength of the tigerfish make it a worthy opponent for the skilful angler.

The introduction to Kariba of kapenta, tiny sardine-like fish, has proved very successful which in turn provides food for Tiger Fish.

Kapenta are also dried for easy distribution as a high protein food or bait

Anglers Union is in a park and wildlife has right of way

Elephant behaviour noticed by the Manager of Anglers Union - Kevin Kotze:

- bull elephants tend to stay on the campsite side of the dry riverbed. Picture right

- On the opposite side most of the elephants are female.

- Comes breeding time (muskth) one of the bulls will cross for the honeymoon night only.

- There is one problem “child” who keeps upending the dustbins in the camp, otherwise people and animals go about there business without conflict

Fishing Boat Hire

Boats can be hired from Marineland (Kariba) and moored at Charara.
Captain will sleep over for a few bob a night.
