Game Count- Hwange

2005 HWANGE GAME COUNT RESULTS:

Bateleur The Game Census in September 2005 gave encouraging news about the long-term health of Hwange wildlife, contrary to some fears of major game loss.

While a few snare injuries were noted, most teams reported that the condition of the animals was generally good and their behavior normal. Few “nervous” or “skittish” animals were noted.

The total (of all areas) count data for a number of species are given in the table below, with data from previous years for comparison

Volunteers for 2007

hwange game drive In “dry” seasons, teams will be counting a higher proportion at all water points.

Animal numbers thus tend to be higher in” dry” than in “wet” seasons.

Therefore, species totals for “dry” 2005 are most directly comparable to 1998 & 1999
