Kavango Zambezi TransfrontierKavango Zambezi Transfrontier (KAZA TCFA)KAZA park
could be the supernova of all peace parks. A giant undertaking incorporating
280 000 sq.kms ranging from Angola - to Namibia's Caprivi, incorporating
the Okavango delta area of Moremi as well as the Chobe National park
and the salt pans of the Kalahari. The cornerstone for this initiative was laid in December 2006 when tourism ministers from the five participating countries of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Angola signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will pave way for the creation of the largest conservation park in the world. A feasibility study undertaken by the South African-based Peace Parks Foundation and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, reports that this transfrontier park could attract as many as eight million tourists to the region annually as well as creating employment for thousands of people and stimulating socio-economic development. This is exciting news for everyone concerned. Also proposed is a single visa system to cover the whole of the park. Now that is good news. Already designated as the hub of KAZA Park is Victoria Falls affectionately known as Vic falls with Katima Mulilo the admiistrative centre. The giant national park will join 14 proclaimed national parks, game and forest reserves as well as game and wildlife management areas. The biodversity of KAZA is as phenomenal as the project itself. KAZA's resident wildlife is also impressive containing Africa's largest
contiguous elephant population as well as major populations of a wide
range of species such as buffalo, hippopotamus, lion, lechwe, roan,
sable, eland, zebra, The oldest living human inhabitants date back to more than 80,000 years ago. When the "Abantu" settlers moved into this area round about 1750, they found small families of Khoi-Khoi, the Bushmen, living there. Today you still find groups of! Khûng and Khoé Bushmen living as hunter-gatherers amongst the Abantu tribes in obvious peace. KAZA is a FIRST for Africa - a huge vision that is scheduled to be completed by 2010 - this to co-incide with the tourism rich World Cup Soccer being held in South Africa. KAZA PARK will be a "world without borders" where its wildlife can roam freely, where tourists can also travel freely. A park created for the upliftment of the area and its people. next park : Kgalagadi Transfrontier |
