Xaro safari lodge - Okavango
Xaro Lodge : situated near Shakawe, on the panhandle, on the north
western side of the Okavango delta, Botswana.
The region is particularly good for tiger fishing and for bird watching
including African skimmers, egrets, herons and quite a few of the kingfisher
family.
Xaro Lodge has been carefully designed to be unobtrusive and fit in
with its natural tropical surroundings.
Take a walk in the lodge grounds and listen to the boubou's - relax
as the Okavango glides by or the mokoro makes it way through the delta's
channels.
Accommodation
Xaro Lodge has 8 luxury spacious en suite meru tents sleeping 2 guests.
The tents have been specially designed with glass doors in the front
of the tent.
Each "tent" is on leadwood decks and all have views of the
Okavango river.
Xaro Lodge : Facilities
There is a dining room, bar and swimming pool.
Enjoy pre-dinner drinks around the open campfire and after dinner enjoy
a cigar and brandy with new found friends.
Xaro Lodge offers a number of pathways for bird walks.
Keep a keen eye out for the elusive Pel's Fishing owl and his nest.
Take a motor boat trip for fishing, birding or photographic opportunities.
Let your guide manoeuvre the boat so you get good photos of birds, crocs,
water monitors and other resident bird and wildlife.
Birdlife there are over 380 species of birds to be found in the area
incuding the migrating birds such as Skimmers and Carmines.
Fishing: this area is superb for fishing with the main types of fish
being Tiger and Bream as well as barbel.

With the Okavango river at the panhandle being deep and fast-flowing
it is ideal for both the fighting Tigerfish and bream.
Seventeen species of fish can be caught in the Panhandle area.
* Birding
Bird watching is also outstanding in the region's tall, shady, riverine
forests and many resident and migratory birds can be seen along the
river
Tourist attractions
* Tsodilo Hills
nearby with over 3500 bushman paintings.
There are 4 hills forming a line of sheet quartzite cliff faces.
Long associated with spirituality, Tsodilo is a place of special significance
to the Basarwa people.
Archaeological studies estimate that humans occupied this area for 1000
years.
The Tsodilo Hills are one of the most historically significent rock
art sites in the world and is a declared World Heritage site.
The track to Tsodilo Hills is a good dirt road and suitable
for all vehicles

Drotskys Caves
near the Namibian border and accessibe by 4 wheel drive
only.
An impressive decorated cavern system with a series of stalagmites and
stalactites rising to heights of about 10 metres.
* Mahungo
Game park
a small but well stocked park.
Elephants, wildebeest, sable, roan are some of the game to be seen in
the park
