1) The river roads offer excellent wildlife viewing and spectacular scenery. The Chobe river is known for its magnificent bird viewing. There are over 400 different species in the Chohe National Park ranging from eagles to kingfishers and from marabou storks to bee–eaters. Occasionally, carmine bee–eaters build colonies in the sand banks of the flood – plains where they nest in their thousands. 2 ) The road to Ngwezumba and the pans Noghatsau and Tjinga turns south from near Serondela and traversed typical miombo woodland until it reaches the Ngwezumba river a distance of about 60kms. There is a circular route running through the pans which can be visited at any time of the day. Once again, the main attraction is elephant, although buffalo also drink during daylight hours. In the open grassland to the west of the pans occur the rare oribi and occasional reedbuck. There is a road running south – west along Ngwezumba river which takes visitors through forest to the open Mababe Plain. There, wildlife can he prolific, particularly buffalo, tsessebe, wildebeest, impala and waterbuck. For lucky people the zebra migration through Mababe Depression, which takes place in the early part of the year, is an amazing spectacle. Sometimes thousands of zebra stand out on the open grassland and beneath spreading acacia trees. 3) The immensity of Mababe Depression is stunning. Wether it is seen in the dry season when it can appear almost desert – like, barren beyond belief, or after rain, on one of those crystal days that dance between the peerless blue of the sky and the vivid green of new grass, the effect is always the same. for general enquiries/quotes email Tel: + 27 (0)31 762 2424 ask for Niki, Maxine or Carien More Info - Chobe |
