A 15m x 7m Houseboat on 2 x 1,5m steel pontoons powered by a Perkins 6354 Marine Diesel Engine and a Borg Warner Marine Gearbox moored at Cutty Sark Harbour on Lake Kariba.

Consumption: +- 15 Litres per hour, maximum 6 knots - cruise 4 knots.

4 Double cabins all with wash hand basins - 2 en suite consisting of shower & toilet. Each room has a small safe for personals.

General Information houseboats for sale /rent

Current running costs for a medium size houseboat are:

« Mooring fees roughly SA Rands 1500 per month. (Wages, Mooring Fees etc)
« Laundry Charges - this will depend on the amount of charters you have. In a busy month such as March you will spend about Roughly SAR500 to 640.00 on laundry charges.
« Management fee is roughly SAR734.00 per month.
« Fuel - The current cost per litre for diesel is between SAR7 - 10.
« Gas - will cost in the region of SAR225.00 for 10kg's.
« Annual fees are National Parks which was SAR302.00 per year
« Insurance on the boat is roughly SAR1200

1. To give a comparison of what a new houseboat would cost to buy - without a engine for a new boat is approx. R800,000 (USD 120,000).
Engines & fittings would easily take this figure to between Rands 1 and 3 million

3. Road transfer costs are very high as is renting a crane to launch the boat.

1. Construction – steel monohull built in 1993 and refitted in 1997. Displacement – 22 tonnes 17.5 m long (57 ft).

2. Power – Volvopenta turbo diesel 135 hp drives via a gearbox direct to an 18 inch 3 bladed propeller. Speed 8 knots and fuel consumption of 12 l/hour, including the generator.

3. Generator - 220v 8 amp Mercury water cooled. Used to power the refrigeration – deep freeze and storage fridge and cabin fans.

4. Lighting - 12 v DC from deep cycle batteries charged from the main engine.

5. Heating – LP gas drives the 4-plate stove and oven and hot water geyser

6. Water - Supply from the lake and pressurised from a reservoir tank by a 12 v DC impellor pump.

7. Sewerage – All toilets are flush type with waste stored in an on board tank which is discharged daily 1 km offshore via a 220 v macerator pump.

8. Food Storage – Via fridge and deep freeze and supplemented by a large insulated chest packed with ice (available in Kariba) to cool drinks and vegetables.

9. Accommodation – 3 double cabins en suite with through draft for cool evenings. One additional shower and toilet for day use and for use by additional pax using the upper deck for sleeping.

10. Upper deck - Fitted with a roof and screens in a conversation pit configuration with cold box. One section of seats folds out into a double bunk for sleeping.

11. Dining – The aft deck is fitted with a large permanent table with 8 folding occasional chairs.

12. Entertainment – A splash pool at the rear in which to cool off and enjoy a few drinks.

13. Crew - 2 people, pilot and deck hand cook. Pilot assists deck hand and vice versa. Crew has its own cabin and ablutions.

14. Equipment - Moya comes fitted out with crockery, cutlery, kitchen utensils, linen and bedding for 8 persons.

15. Safety equipment – Ship to shore radio, depth finder, life rings, life jackets.

16. Tender – A canoe raft with open-plan seating, roofed and powered by a 15 hp outboard engine. Additional private tenders may be accommodated and towed. Tenders are used for fishing, game and bird watching.
