General Information houseboats for sale /rent

Current running costs for a medium size houseboat are:

« Mooring fees roughly SA Rands 1500 per month. (Wages, Mooring Fees etc)
« Laundry Charges - this will depend on the amount of charters you have. In a busy month such as March you will spend about Roughly SAR500 to 640.00 on laundry charges.
« Management fee is roughly SAR734.00 per month.
« Fuel - The current cost per litre for diesel is between SAR7 - 10.
« Gas - will cost in the region of SAR225.00 for 10kg's.
« Annual fees are National Parks which was SAR302.00 per year
« Insurance on the boat is roughly SAR1200

1. To give a comparison of what a new houseboat would cost to buy - without a engine for a new boat is approx. R1,000,000 (USD 120,000).
Engines & fittings would easily take this figure to between Rands 2 and 3 million

3. Road transfer costs are very high as is renting a crane to launch the boat.

2. There is talk of resuming flights between Victoria Falls/Harare to Kariba.

3. From our own experience houseboat rentals on Kariba are rapidly reaching their old favoured position - and will increase once the airlines have got their act together
