Bordering on the edge of the Matusadona National Park, Spurwing Island is ideally situated to offer a wide range of game viewing activities

Hiking Safaris

* these are led by a Professional Guide into the Matusadona National Park

* the walk can take a maximum of six guests

* no children under 16 are allowed on the walks

* the walks leave from Spurwing Island by boat which transfer the guest to the Matusadona National Park where they then either board the vehicle and drive to where they will start the walk or boat to a starting point for the walk.

* the walking safari provides an opportunity to study nature at "grassroots level" whether it is an interesting insect, plant, tree, bird, spoor, or a close encounter with wildlife.

Getting to Spurwing Island

if flying into Forthergill island a short boat transfer will be arranged
If flying into Kariba Airport Spurwing will arrange collection by a comfortable mini bus for a fifteen minute drive to the harbour where the guests will board either a speed boat or a launch boat for a 45 minute trip across the lake to Spurwing Island.
If driving to Kariba, there is secure parking available at the Marina for a nominal charge.
Guests are requested to check-in thirty minutes before boat departure
Dependent upon the number of the guests being transferred and the weather, the boats used for the transfers are covered launches.
Boat transfers are operated by prior arrangement and generally run to and from Spurwing Island at the following times:
Marineland Transfer Times
Departure from Marineland Harbour to Spurwing Island: 12. P.M.
Departure from Spurwing Island to Marineland Harbour: 10. A.M.

The charter flights, bus and boat transfers can be booked through Afrizim.com.

Guests may bring their own boats to the Island.

A service is provided to clean and fuel their boats and to gut & freeze any fish caught to take home.

If you are chartering or have your own aircraft, the nearest airstrip is Fothergill Island.

Spurwing can arrange collection from the airstrip by either speed boat or Land Rover (dependent upon the lake levels), for the transfer to Spurwing Island.

The boat trip takes approx. 15 mins - the trip by Land Rover approx. 45 mins.
