Walking safaris Hwange - Info
Walking safaris are ideal for special interest groups, who are keen
on gaining knowledge on a particular subject, such as birding, botany
and photography
General Information
Waterhole “sits” can be very productive for game viewing
and photography – a chance to sit quietly, breathe in the scents
of the bush, hear the sounds of nature and get the feel of our incredible
environment.
The fitness level of the participants dictates activities and length
of walks. Flexibility in the schedule is important to be able to adjust
and move with the pace of Africa.
Wildlife is of course, the prime focus of a safari. However all attempts
are made to make your safari a complete experience.
By spending a few days with the one guide it also provides the opportunity
for an excellent rapport to develop between guests and guide.
Walking safaris are ideal for special interest groups, who are keen
on gaining knowledge on a particular subject, such as birding, botany
and photography – as much or as little time can be spent observing
any one species.
During afternoon breaks and in the evening, talks are given on animal
behaviour and characteristics, bird life, plant ecology and medicinal
uses, geology, astronomy and history. These talks are not given to supplant
your daily safari experience, but to enable you to understand what you
are observing.
Groups are kept to a maximum of six to ensure, exclusivity, group cohesion,
convenience and safety. The camp is staffed by a cook and camp attendant
who complete all camp preparation and cleaning chores. Transport between
camps is in open 4WD vehicles. The camp crew ensure that guests are
not only more than comfortable but able to focus on a full African safari
experience.
Tents are spacious, walk-in type “bow tents” constructed
of khaki canvas with gauze windows on all sides to enhance your unique
‘out there’ experience. Flysheets and side flaps are provided
for inclement weather while the beds are comfortable mattresses on aluminium
folding beds with full bedding and pillows. A pre-heated shower and
long-drop toilet tent are set up at each camp.
It is worth noting that guides for decades in Zimbabwe have slept under
just a mosquito net draped beneath a tree branch without incident from
hyaena, lion or other night “visitor” It is apparent that
just that thin physical separation is sufficient to ensure your safety
in a tent and a good night’s sleep!
Food is as filling, tasty and variable as camping restrictions will
allow, vegetarians are catered for on request and a full bar, cold drinks,
wine, beer, spirits, soft drinks and bottled water are supplied.
The comfort and safety of our guests are our priority and every effort
will be made to ensure your safari is thoroughly enjoyable!
Location of walking safaris
For logistical reasons the safari is based in one place for the 3 nights,
4 days but your guide will conduct forays in various directions daily
so that your experience will always be varied.
In both these areas there is great diversity and exclusivity to explore
over the four day period. | Hwange
