Passport: these must not be taken on the river but can be left in the office with other valuables

Explorer Safaris - expeditionary style trips. These are semi participatory with 2 qualified canoe guides who will take care of all the cooking, washing and other camp chores.

Luggage allowance of 10 kgs on the river

Animals : elephant - buffalo - impala - waterbuck - hippo - crocodile - plentiful birdlife.
Lion, leopard, painted hunting dog are more difficult to see

Includes

Road transfers to and from the safari from Kariba - e.g. from Chirundu / to Mana Pools

All meals -
Drinks - cordials not minerals. There is no alcohol, other than wine with dinner each evening.

All canoeing equipment - the canoes are two-man Canadian-style canoes, and the paddles are American Carlisle paddles.

All camping equipment - two-man dome tents, sleeping bags, liners, mattress, mosquito net, fly sheet, ground sheet and tarpaulin (in case of rainy weather).

Brief Itinerary

Day 1 - Luggage is portaged into the gorge and after the walk down to the river and briefing session, we start paddling at about 11h00. Picnic lunch and siesta then canoeing commences at approx. 14h30 until 17h00 where we make camp for the night.

Day 2 - sunrise wake up to tea/coffee for a short morning's paddling before stopping for breakfast. Paddling continues from 09h30 until midday. Lunch and time for a siesta. Between 15h00 - 17h00 paddle to Twin Logs Island where we will overnight.

Day 3 - Similar to Day 2 - overnighting on the Kakomarara island.

Day 4 - another sunrise wake up call then paddling for a few hours before stopping for breakfast.
After lunch and siesta we continue until approx. 17h00 and overnight on Lone Acacia Island.

Day 5 - same as day 4 - overnighting on Trichelia Island.

Day 6 - 0 tea/coffee and breakfast before paddling starts at 08h00. We arrive at Mana Pools at 10h00 where all canoes are loaded up for the return trip to Kariba. Arrival Kariba is approx. 14h00.
