Mana Pools canoe trail-ChimombeChimombe Trail - starts from Mana Pools, ending at Kanyemba, a border town with Mozambique. 5 Days - 4 Nights (128 kms)Maps:Zambezi Escarpment | Kariba Road | Google maps ( search for Zimbabwe ) Entering Mana Pools National Park, you travel along dirt roads often sighting game until Nyamepi Camp launching site The canoe trip which starts from Nyamepi Camp, and finishes at Kanyemba, a border town with Mozambique. The total distance covered down the Zambezi River is 128kms
DAY 1After a canoe safety procedures briefing, guests launch onto the Zambezi River with our experienced river guides,and canoe 14 kms to the overnight stop near Nyamatusi, where elephant and buffalo can be seen on the islands. DAY 2Today guests canoe along wide, open stretches of the river passing through channels abundant in birdlife and game. Having covered 28 kms the trail stops overnight in the Sapi Safari Area. DAY 3After an early morning start the safari channels out of the Zambezi River main stream.The river winds its way between the mountains of the Zambian escarpment and the plain on the Zimbabwe side. The distance covered is 38 kms before stopping overnight at the Mupata Gorge entrance. DAY 4The fourth day is spent canoeing through the spectacular scenery of the Mutapa Gorge, with its impressive rock formations, high sand banks and abundance of trees and birdlife. A distance of 40 kms is covered this day before the night stop. DAY 5
This the last day of the Chimombe Trail ending at Kanyemba, a border town with Mozambique. This is a relaxed 8 km canoe trip where the canoe trail ends. After breakfast you begin your five hour journey by Landcruiser following the Zambezi River road from Kanyemba to Chimutsi Gate. The bus will be waiting with refreshments near Mana Pools. Kanyemba, named after the historical chief, and border town with Mocambique, is very much out of the way and rustic. This safari was named after Chimombe, the renowned River God whose home was reputed to be in the Chewore Wilderness area and whose legend plays a part in African folklore
